Gilbert Nick

Social Science Investigator and Practitioner (SURE!)

Gilbert A. Nick is a Ph.D. candidate in the Social Welfare Program at the Graduate Center, City University of New York and is a licensed clinical social worker with more than 15 years of practice experience. As an interdisciplinary social science and public health researcher, he uses mixed-methods research to improve quality of life and access to healthcare within historically marginalized and disenfranchised populations. His research focuses on exploring individual, cultural, and structural factors that contribute to disproportionate outcomes of access, quality, and treatment in mental health services among BIPOC communities in the United States. His dissertation investigates mental health conditions that mediate the relationship between early life adversity and behavioral addictions (problematic internet use and compulsive buying) and the socio-cultural factors that moderate those relationships. Gilbert received his master of science in social work and master of public administration from Columbia University, and a bachelor of arts from Oberlin College.
